New Year Get Togethers

For Chinese New Year (or Lunar New Year as Daddy would call it) K attended many celebrations. Auntie Kristine treated us to dinner at Tai Wu in Daly City.

Auntie Esther and Uncle Al joined us too. K likes grabs everything in sight especially the chopsticks.

K played with her doll from grandma as we ate. That lasted a good 5 minutes until she got bored.

Lately many people have said K looks a lot like Daddy now. What do you think? Is there a resemblance?

Thanks again Auntie Kristine! We enjoyed steamed fish, watercress soup, peking duck, XO beef and steamed tofu. I bet K can't wait until she can eat that good!

Over the weekend, we celebrated with Mommy's side of the family. Of course that meant spending time with  Po Po and Gung Gung. When we got to their house, they insisted Daddy and Mommy go out while they watch K. We took them up on their offer and walked around the Marina outlets for an hour.

K is generous with her kisses to her stuffed animals, but now she gives kisses to people as well such as Po Po.

Gung Gung taught K to stick out her tongue. They both are so silly.

K continued to stick out her tongue for the rest of the night. Mommy doesn't think she loves that new trick.

K spent time with Uncle Derek and Auntie Gabby too while holding on to the red envelopes she got. She was smart not to let go of her money.

K played with Ashley too. Ashley has the same activity mat as K.  Mommy sometimes misses when she could put K down on the mat and do stuff while K laid still. Times have changed.

4 generations...

Majority of the food you see on the table was cooked by great grandma. Quite amazing for 87 years old! She is still tough as nails and pretty active. Maybe that's where K gets it from.

On Sunday, K celebrated with Daddy's family at great grandma's house. Picture time with grandma, Auntie Tammy and Kaylyn.

Kaylyn thought it would be fun to feed K zucchini and apples for dinner.

This became a really long blog entry. It just goes to show how busy K has been in the last couple of days. She loves to play and hang out, so we hope to see you soon!

Who's Your Daddy?

For the last month or so, K has been saying her first word but we never had our camera ready to film.  And when we did, she didn't feel like saying it anymore. This morning she was in a talkative mood! Daddy says he knows which parent K loves more. Mommy read in a book there is no association at this age and Da Da is just easier to say. Daddy can still have his proud moment though!

Gung Hay Fat Choy

Gung Hay Fat Choy and Chuc Mung Nam Moi (for K's Vietnamese half)
K has several pieces of Chinese attire that were given to her as gifts. Mommy decided to have K model her outfits since next year they probably won't fit anymore.

First up is a dress from Auntie Dalena & Uncle Norman.

Next is an outfit that Po Po and Gung Gung brought in HK last November.

And finally is one more outfit her grandparents got her in Hong Kong. K was no longer in the mood to take pictures.

She received her first red envelopes (lycee) from Mommy and Daddy. She is thinking Cha Ching! Money for new toys! She wishes everyone a Happy Dragon Year!

Growing Up

K has learned how to wave. When she leaves, she waves bye and if you wave hi to her she will do the same back to you.

She is becoming a big girl and more independent. She can hold her sippy cup and feed herself water.

She is definitely sprouting more hair by the day. During bath time, her hair is even starting to stick up when Mommy washes it.

Today was hot pot at Auntie Diane's house. Great grandma and Uncle Mancheuk spent some quality time with K.

It's milk time for K and Ashley. K changed into her PJs in case she falls asleep in the car on the ride home from Auntie Diane's. If we are careful, we can transfer her from the carseat straight to her crib without her waking up.

These are the moments Mommy cherishes the most.  K will eventually grow up and not want to cuddle, but for now she will still be my baby!

Road Trip

On Sunday, K took her first mini road trip to visit grandma in Elk Grove, Sac. She has been hating car seats lately, so we left the house right when she usually takes her morning nap. This is how she spent the majority of her ride up to Sac and the ride back home as well. Daddy says the trip is 110 miles each way!

Grandma was pretty excited K came to visit, but grandma was worn out by the end of the day. She didn't realize how active K was. She joked and said I think I rather wash the dishes and take a break from playing with K.

It's ridiculous how much stuff we have to bring now just to get out of the house! We brought over the pack and play, so K could take her afternoon nap. Elmo came along for the ride and was K's cuddle buddy at nap time.

When she got up, she played with Elmo some more. K: Hey who turned off the lights?

For dinner, grandma made us some home made egg noodle soup. She owned a pho restaurant before and makes the tastiest noodle soups. We had fun at grandma's and hope to see her again soon!

Practice Makes Perfect

K can try finger foods now. Her new favorite snack is

It took her a couple of tries, but eventually she was able to do it. She even gave herself a clap for a job well done!

In the last 2 months she has eaten many new foods such as jook, butternut squash, zucchini, cantaloupe, apples, pears, carrots, chicken, turkey, and papaya just to name a few. She even likes broccoli and opens wide- see below. Mommy is happy she likes her veggies. Up next to try...green beans.

Playground Playdate

On Saturday, K invited her friend James to the park. It was his first time at the playground so it was fun to see him experience many firsts. The day started with Mommy and K wearing matching sneakers courtesy of Uncle Larry.

We went to the park across the street from Po Po and Gung Gung's house. Before heading out, James and K had a crawling contest to the activity table. Ready on your mark, get set...Go!

At the playground there was lots to do. The first activity was the swings. These two have officially become swing buddies with their animal hats. They both are thinking- are you guys coming over to push us or what?

K: Higher Mommy! Higher!

We went on the slide as well, but K thought it was too slow. Perhaps she is a thrill seeker. The slide at our complex goes much faster and she always laughs going down, but the slide at this park- no reaction. Owell, but next up was the seesaw.

Before heading back, picture with Mommies and babies.

We needed a picture with Daddy as well.

After the park, we walked back to Po Po and Gung Gung's house and Ashley was there to join in on the fun.

That same day, we went out to dinner with Mommy's side of the family. K had fun at the restaurant with Uncle Derek's fear the beard. She didn't mind that it was prickly and laughed when she touched it.

Family picture to end the night...

Baby On The Go!

K has graduated from the wounded solider crawl and now able to crawl on all fours. This girl can move! These days we have to keep a close eye on her. Pretty soon we will have to start childproofing our place since she loves to open and pull on drawers and especially loves to pull on cords.

Trip to the Acadmey

Over the holiday break, K took her first trip to the Academy of Sciences. We were expecting it to be super crowded the Monday after New Year's, but we were pleasantly surprised that it was not bad at all!

K got to see many animals and exhibits such as real reindeer. We learned they eat corn and sweet potato.

We also saw turtles from the Galapagos Islands. Daddy has been to the actual island. He was in the water next to the turtles and said they are quite friendly.

We saw a penguin get ready to take a dive in the water as well.

K's favorite attraction was the aquarium. She was in awe when they swam by her.

She wanted to touch the fish. As you can see, she is not wearing any shoes. Her socks got rather dirty. I think it's time to purchase some shoes for her now that she is able to stand.

K is waiting patiently for the the Nemos to swim by.

Before we headed home, we ventured into the Snowman dome and K watched her first movie on how snow was made. K wasn't too interested and was rather bored. Mommy didn't care for it either. Next time K goes to a theater, it will be a kid's flick for sure!  The coolest thing happened when we got out of the dome, snow started to fall.
The academy was a fun way to end our holiday break. We are looking forward to going again soon!
