Slowly But Surely...
With K nothing really comes easy for example drinking from a bottle, transitioning to whole milk and now weaning from a bottle. She is a strong willed, independent baby with a personality and that's why we love her. When something new is introduced to her or there is change, it usually starts with protest, refusal, anger but with patience and love success is eventually achieved. The last 2 weeks, Daddy and I have been trying to have her drink from a cup. She is able to drink water from any open faced cup or straw cup, but once milk is put in these cups she pushes it away instantly and drops it out of her hands. She refuses to drink milk from anything other than a bottle. This weekend we gradually started dropping a bottle and this morning she finally took 3 sips from a straw cup. This may not seem like a lot but Mommy will take anything she gets. We know in time she will fully transition. Next up will be training her to drink cold milk!

Yummy Yum Yum
Now that K is almost 15 months old, she is becoming more independent each day especially when it comes to meal time. She wants to feed herself. She even wants to use an adult spoon and when something is hot, she knows to blow on it first before putting in her mouth.
She was happy when she was able to scoop the food onto her spoon. She focused hard not to drop the food and have it reach her mouth.
The faster method was put the bowl to the mouth and eat away. Her favorite food is hands down fruit, but also loves broccoli, noodles, oatmeal and tofu. Mommy wonders if she is a vegetarian since she doesn't eat that much meat.
K has been practicing drinking from a cup. She's trying so hard to drink the water, you can't even see her eyes or face.
Now we can see her. Since she hasn't mastered the skill of drinking from the cup yet, water can spill on her neck and body.
K got this over sized bib as a gift and now may be the time to pull it out and use it! She is thinking what the heck is this thing!?
Laura, Lolita's helper from daycare sent some pictures of K to Mommy. K loves raw tomatoes and cucumbers.
Last week was Avery's birthday and she brought in cupcakes to celebrate. Lolita said, don't worry K did not eat the whole cupcake and get sugar high! K didn't like the frosting or the cupcake. She hated having frosting on her fingers. She is definitely Mommy's kid. Mommy is OCD and hates getting dirty.

Quality Time With The Grandparents
Po Po and Gung Gung babysat K while Mommy and Daddy attended a
wedding. Before her grandparents arrived, K made sure the house was spic
and span by dusting.
She was ready to go out and play. She tried putting on her own shoe.
That didn't work, so her second attempt was to put the shoe down and slip it on. She eventually got help from Mommy.
Once her shoe was on, she went to the backyard to kick the ball with Gung Gung. Gung Gung use to be a soccer player in his college days.
K tried bouncing the ball too.
After taking a break from playing in the backyard, K practiced using a pen.
The next day we celebrated Gung Gung's birthday.
At dinner, Uncle Derek fed K some soup.
Thanks Po Po and Gung Gung for watching K! She enjoyed spending time with you!

Swimming Pool Adventures
We are going on our first family vacation in September to Hawaii. In order to get ready for the water, K had a couple trial swim lessons. The first lesson was at King Swim Academy in San Carlos. K did not like the water one bit. For the first 10 minutes she cried and held on to Mommy for dear life. The funny thing was there were no other babies in her class, so it turned into a private lesson. Mommy had signed up for a lesson the day before July 4th. Maybe other babies were on vacation.
K was not too fond of the activities either especially lying on her tummy on the mat.
Finally, half way through the lesson K slowly became less fearful and did some kicks in the water with the help of Teacher Diane.
By the end of the lesson, K actually clapped and smiled. She had fun going thru the noodle.
K's second trial lesson was at La Petite Baleen in San Bruno. What a difference a second lesson made! K didn't cry at all this time. She had 3 other babies in her class. In this picture, Daddy was getting ready to pass K to Teacher May. Each baby took turns swimming to Teacher May.
Each baby put on a tube and took turns floating through the tunnel. K's favorite part of the lesson was sliding down a mat into Daddy's arms.
During K's second class Auntie Ali and Court came to watch K on the sidelines. Court is a pro in the water. She takes lessons every Monday and can even dunk her her head in the water. Since K enjoyed her lessons at La Petite, Daddy signed up for additional classes for the next 4 Sundays.
After class, Court came over to visit. K hadn't seen her friend in 2 months, so they had fun following each around the house and snacking on blueberries.
Court left to take an afternoon nap and K needed her beauty sleep as well. When she woke up, Daddy surprised her by building Auntie Alice and Uncle John's birthday present. Now that there is more room in our new home, K could finally ride it.

Chinese Name
Auntie Diane and Uncle Mancheuk took a trip to Hong Kong recently and got K this t-shirt with her Chinese name on it. Po Po selected K's name which means pretty and smart. Maybe she's not so smart when it comes to being more careful. Right before the picture she was being her active self and bumped her head into her crib, hence the red mark above her eyebrow. It didn't phase her though, she got up and jumped off her chair a moment later.
The t-shirt is a nice gift to have since Mommy does not know how to write the Chinese characters. Now Mommy has something to refer to if she ever wants to teach K how to write her name when she is older. Daddy thinks K looks like her friend, Ry is this picture.
K took her first hospital visit to see her new friend Baby Ayumi. K even got her own "visitor" sticker.
Isn't Baby A cute! She was delivered by the same doctor that delivered K!
K loves story time. She will bring a book over to Mommy or Daddy and plop ourself down on their lap. Her favorite book is Good Night Gorilla. She makes Mommy read it to her sometimes 5 time in a row!
She also likes to carry around her sleep sack. She resembles Linus from Charlie Brown since she drags her sleep sack every wear she goes. She loves the feel of anything fleece.
K also likes to play peek a boo with her sleep sack too.
In other news, K's molars came in. Mommy thought back teeth don't usually come in until 2 years old but this wasn't the case. Maybe that explains why K had a high fever last month! Another new update is when we go to restaurants, K's new thing is to scream for no apparent reason. It's not out of sadness or anger, but just top of the lungs screaming then followed by laughing. Maybe she's trying to communicate, but Daddy and Mommy hope it's just a phase! Finally K is beginning to have separation anxiety especially when Mommy leaves the room. She goes chasing after Mommy and wants to be held. K is also more selective on who holds her. Don't take it personally if she doesn't want to be held by you. Just give her 10 minutes to warm up and she is back to her friendly self.

Noodle Kind Of Weekend
Last weekend, K tasted noodles for the first time. She had chow mein at Caleb's 2nd birthday at Hokkoido Buffet where K had her red egg ginger party.
We tried to get a picture of the birthday boy, but he was having too much fun at his party and wanted to play instead. He's the little guy in the background.
Another noodle she tried was egg noddles.
She loved it. The next bite she opened wide.
K: Give me more! Faster Mommy! Faster Mommy!
K saw her friends over the weekend too. She met Baby Mason for the first time. Mason was a really good boy. He slept most of the time while the adults had dinner.
The girls were in their PJs ready for bed. Court gave K a good night kiss.
For fun, Daddy has been pushing K in the laundry basket. She giggles everytime.
Now that K is able to walk, Mommy loves to hold her hand!

First Tooth
Finally teeth are coming! K's first tooth appeared two weeks ago. She was cranky over the weekend and by Monday she was her cheery self again at Lolitas. We are thankful that it hasn't affected her night time sleeping (knock on wood)!! According to Po Po, Mommy was a terror when she was teething and cried so much, she ended up sleeping in Po Po's bed. If you look closely, you can see a tiny speck of white in the middle and to the left below her gum is red since her second tooth is poking through as well. The pic is pretty blurry since K was not cooperative and would not stay still. Once her pearly whites come in, we will get a better picture!
Ever since she's been teething, she frequently sticks her hand in her mouth like this. Somehow babies find this soothing.
Another first for K is holding her own bottle. She has stopped being lazy and can feed herself.
Today Auntie Lilian and James came over. We can't believe how tall James has gotten. He's almost 2 inches taller than K and he's a month younger. We think he should be a basketball player when he grows up! James shared his rice crackers with K. It was her first time eating them and she wasn't sure what to do with them. She looks to James to see how it's done.
James gives K positive reinforcement and says you can do it!
The kids had fun looking out the door watching the cars go bye. K would wave to the vehicles that passed by.
Hopefully these two will grow up together and be as good friends just like Auntie Lilian & Mommy!

Big Girl
K has graduated from the sippy cup to drinking out of a straw. It took her a few tries to get the hang of it, but she can do it. Thanks Auntie Ali for recommending the cup!
K is proud of herself for being able to do it as well!
Another new thing she has learned is how to brush her own hair. She picked up the brush off the coffee table one day and just started putting it against her hair and has done it several times since.

Lastly over the weekend, Po Po and Gung Gung wanted to see if K could climb up the stairs. Gung Gung is spotting her along the way. Here's a short clip taken from Daddy's iphone.
